Cervical Screening/Smear Test

Fairview Medical Centre, Drs Lee, Kelly, Cormican, Broderick, McGlynn are now registered with The National Cervical Screening Programme (ICSP). This commenced in September 2009 last and offers free cervical screening to women aged between 25 and 60 years. This service is generally provided by one of our female nurses or by Dr. Fiona McGlynn.

The service is offered free to women who have registered with the NCSS aged 25-44 every three years and 45-60 every five years. Fairview Medical Centre will register patients for the service on their behalf on request, form available at reception.

The best time to have your test done is between day 10 and day 20 of your cycle. For those taking the contraceptive pill the smear test should be taken mid packet.

We are currently offering patients an appointment on request as well as a running a recall system. The programme then writes to the patients directly regarding their results as per the agreement, current waiting time for results appears to be between 3 to 5 weeks (Tel: 061 461390).
